Abstract

This fourth volume of the Socialist Register follows the pattern of the previous three and is intended as a contribution to the discussion of problems of socialist theory and practice. Our warm thanks are due to our contributors, to Ben Brewster for his translation of Maurice Godelier's essay, and to Martin Eve for being such a helpful publisher. We should also like to make it clear that none of the contributors to this volume should necessarily be held to share the views expressed by any other.
